Sketching People with Fountain Pen

Sunday, August 25, 1–4 PM / Instructor: Emmett Catedral

Our fountain pen sketching classes with Emmett Catedral have been so popular that we’ve come up with a new one! In this workshop, you’ll learn basic techniques for sketching people and drawing portraits, using a fountain pen and water brush. The class will cover the essentials of drawing with ink: laying down direct, expressive lines and using a water brush to add depth and color. Using this technique, you’ll make quick figure impressions and learn a few things about making more detailed portraits.

You can take this class whether or not you’ve already taken the urban sketching class in the past!

As with all our classes, a complete, artist-curated supply kit is included:

  • A Pilot Kakuno fountain pen, super smooth and easy-to-use, with water-soluble ink. (You can also upgrade to a LAMY Safari for an extra $20.) If you already have a fountain pen, you can choose to receive a $15 gift card for more inks, brushes, or paper instead.

  • A Canson Artist Series Mixed Media notebook, the perfect companion for fountain pen that holds up to ink and water.

  • A Sakura travel water brush for quick blending and shading.

Believe it or not, these simple tools are everything you’ll need to create dynamic figure sketches. Your $45 class fee covers these supplies and three hours of expert instruction with a small class size (maximum 10 students).
